Application Error Designer closes
I get the following error and the designer closes.
dsdesign.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x73dd11c7" referenced memory at "0x0000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
This happens when i am working on a sequence. it has about 12 stages. If i make changes to 3 or 4 stages in it without saving it, i get the error. if i save it after every change the error does not occur. Is this warning occuring on client side or on the server?
Also if the designer closes due to connection failure the job gets locked and needs to be unlocked to work on it. But if designer closes due to this error it opens the previously saved version of the job. why is it so?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to Dsxchange :D !!!
Connection error is due to server settings, but the errror that you got is due to the client settings. What is your OS and service pack?
Check if the hardware configuration of your system coups with the recommended requirement.
Try to reinstall the client and check if the same exisit.

Impossible doesn't mean 'it is not possible' actually means... 'NOBODY HAS DONE IT SO FAR'

This is a known issue - Designer crashing working Sequence jobs - unrelated to SP2 and there is a separate patch for it. Search the forum, the specific patch is probably listed here somewhere.
Basically, you'll need to log on to the IIS Portal / eService website and download it.

This is the first time i am getting this problem. Using windows XP service pack 2. Also now the job stopped compiling and gives compilation error.
"Error compiling Job Control Subroutine <job name>"
When i click on MORE the following message is displayed.
Compiling: Source = 'RT_BP461/JOB.1355700047.DT.1431730946', Object = 'RT_BP461.O/JOB.1355700047.DT.1431730946'

WARNING: Variable 'handle$list' never assigned a value.
Compilation Complete.
<Job Name>[/color]
I tried unlocking the job from director but the warning is still coming.
Ray "If you're running on Windows XP sp2 do you have the patch?"
Wat patch is it? i keep updating my system from microsft.
I have worked on bigger sequences but never had this problem.
i have two login names. will try with the other and will update.
Thanks in advance

Thanks Brian. That worked. Job compiled sucessfully.
I created a copy of the sequence and made changes without saving. no warnings while saving. but i was using the second login ID. Couldnt find the patch for XP though. will try with the original job and the first login again and will update.
Thanks

There yah go.
On the patch issue, here is a post where both are mentioned. The 'crash patch' is not available on the Portal, you'll need to contact Support and arrange for them to make it available for you.
