When using the DataStage 7.5.1.a Designer over a T-3 (45mbit/sec) link seems several times slower than using Designer over a local LAN. For instance, the initial login takes about 35 seconds over the WAN link while it might take 4 seconds over the local link.
Anyone have any tips on how to speed things up?

WAN is extremely slow. You need to have your network admin monitor a DS client traffic on the network coming from your connection. You have to open a job, open/close a few stages, etc. It's staggering because the fat client has sooo much traffic.
I have customers who have users worldwide, they ultimately choose a remote-desktop-computing or terminal services type model to have DS clients run on the LAN where its much faster. The net gain works in your developers favor.
