Im getting grey hairs trying the above, and just need a few things answered..
1) Does anyone have a succesfull non-root installation on solaris 2.9
1.1) if yes, what is the trick. We seem to go by the book, but no luck. The installation fails when attempting to create the projects (of which dsadm:dstage is the owner of the directories)
We did think that the project names were too long, but it does not seem to be the problem (DefaultProject; ContributionDev and ContributionProd). As far as I know, 16 chars is the limit for project names.
2) What does the root install physically do to the OS files? I know /etc/services is edited and the startup daemon is accessed (i think rc2) but what more?
The issue here is that the client is a financial company and root access is a big no-no, even if it is only for 30 minutes. For us to attempt a root install, I need to report back on exactly why root is required. We could be installing transfers of millions to my account for all they know
