Is it possible to use Balanced Optimization with Databases on Exadata?

No. At least not yet.

Seeing as how Exadata is an appliance that still runs the "normal" Oracle database software I would imagine the answer is yes.

I love it when I get answers this quickly from the two of the wisest minds on this forum.

Now, if there was only consensus between you.

Ha! Still just Oracle, wonder why it wouldn't be possible?

Why not ping your official support provider - I for one would be curious as to the reason why if it isn't supported.

The reason would be the appliance layer between the rest of the world and the database on an Exadata appliance. But I've been wrong before - why not try it and let us know? It won't do any harm - Balanced Optimization is a design time activity only. You don't actually have to use the generated jobs.

Haven't tried it because we don't have it yet. And we have asked Service Provider, but salesmen sometimes exagerate capabilities.

thanks for the input.
