Datastage 8.5 character issue

What does '?' mean for the 8.5 which isn't reading?

I'm going to guess... NLS. Are both installs NLS enabled? Using the same settings?

Can you pass on few more details like What is the source & target you are using and also the NLS character set defined in Database & DataStage job, datatype of the column having issue with?

Are you seeing '?' when you view the data in ODBC stage too along with target ?
