Regarding access for Salesforce pack in Infosphere 8.5

Post by kirankumarreddydesireddy »

Hi

We are using Infosphere 8.5 server edtion on Windows 2008 R2.There is a new requirement for us to extract data from Salesforce.com and load into the tables in our environment.(which informatica is doing currently).

We had downloaded the Salesforce pack from IBM website and we had installed it on our server Windows 2008 R2.It got succesfully installed on the server. We are not able to find this pack in Server job pallete.however it is visible in parallel job pallete.

We wanted to know if this feature "Salesforce Pack" is available for Parallel jobs only rather than Server Jobs(which is like the Quality stage feature, since Quality stage also available for only Parallel jobs)?

Note : We had installed Infosphere 8.5 Server edition on Windows 2008 R2.Much to our surprise, the parallel edition also got installed(we have'nt selected Parallel edition while installing the Infosphere 8.5 software),we are not able to use parallel jobs(some compilation errors, may be we dont have access to that).
Hence,we are able select New "Parallel" job and we are able to find Salesforce pack in the pallete under "Packs" Category.

Thanks
Kiran

Thanks.

We wanted to know if there is any work around to use Salesforece Pack even though we have installed Server edition.

Since we are planning to replace the current approach(i.e using Informatica for extracting from Salesforce.com) with that of Infosphere Salesforce Pack,Is it compulsory we need to buy Infosphere Parallel edition :) (since we assume it is very costly compared to Server edition)?.

Thanks

There are four different pricing options you could consider to give the Parallel Job functionality you need:
1) Ask for a special bid price for Parallel Jobs and an upgrade from your current Server license. Point out that IBM sold you the SalesForce Pack but did not explain you also need a parallel license. Try to get a deep discount out of IBM to upgrade. It can then be installed onto your existing Server Edition to co-exist.
2) Look at the DataStage WorkGroup pricing which gives you a big discount off the list price - then ask for a discount on top of that. This license is limited to just 400 PVUs and only one processing node at a time but that should still be faster than your Server jobs. What you will find with this license is that the other products become much more affordable and you may be able to include Information Analyzer for DQ monitoring and Business Glossary for an semantic consistency. The combination of WorkGroup Glossary + IA + DataStage may end up lower than a normal DataStage enterprise license.
3) Look at the Information Server licensing for a big Data Warehouse Appliance such as Netezza. In some cases you will find Information Server plus Netezza is cheaper than information Server alone - when you have very high data volumes. You get extra Information Server products such as Services Director for SOA jobs and FastTrack in the Warehouse packs and of course you get a great Data Warehouse appliance in Netezza with terabytes of space.
4) There is a DataStage in the cloud option where you can use DataStage Parallel jobs on the Amazon elastic cloud without needing an up front parallel job license.

I work for an IBM partner and it's our job to get a good deal for customers.

One more thing - you should mention to IBM sales or your IBM partner that is a "replace Informatica" deal and you will get a deeper discount.
