Copy stage active or passive?

Post by pandeesh »

It's not pretty clear in the documentation, whether copy is active or passive.
It's mentioned that processing stage. So can we consider that active stage?

Thanks

Open its properties in the Repository (Stage Types branch) for a definitive answer.

Ask yourself this question - is there any way that a Copy stage can change data? (Dropping columns and renaming columns are not changing data.)

Today again, I have come across this and one of the experienced person told copy is active stage since it resides under processing category in palette.
I explained her. But she was not at all ready to accept.
I leave it as per her choice ..

The stage type properties show Copy (PxCopy) as Active, whereas the stage type properties show Sequential File (PxSequentialFile) as Passive.

All the Processing stage types under the repository show as Active except for the two FTP stages show as Passive.

By default ,is copy comes under processing category in palette?
I feel since it"s passive ,it should not be under processing category .

You can put it in any folder you like. The repository is entirely customisable. The location of a stage type does not affect its other properties.

Because, generally people think that whatever reside under processing category are active stages.
That's what happened for copy stage too.

I think as someone mentioned above it does not matter where it exists on the pallete. If it changes the number of records/columns when it pass through the stage then it's active otherwise passive.

Not columns. A Copy stage (passive) can quite happily drop (not transfer) some columns. This does not represent a change to the data.
