import error and no default value; data: <empty>

hi,
I am extracting data from the pipe delimter file which consists of nullable columns. I have assigned null field value as " " in the format properties and set $APT_IMPEXP_ALLOW_ZERO_LENGTH_FIXED_NULL = 1.
But still I am receiving "import error and no default value" and the record is getting rejected.
