Using only Universe database as metadata repository for info

Post by siquadri »

We are planning upgrade to information server 8.1, and my understanding is 8.1 uses Universe database as metadata repository and also replicates the same in XMETA metadata repository(oracle, db2 or sqlserver). But we want to use only Universe Database as metada repositor and not the XMETA.Is that possible.

Why? It really should be no concern. The metadata store is laid down for you and may as well just be a "black box." Like the Universe metadata store before it, it keeps all your ETL design metadata, plus a whole lot more. Universe is still there to support the run time engine and execution functions, but xmeta has the "teeth" to support data lineage and lots of other metadata functions, and ultimately, as outlined in various threads/reviews of what was announced at IOD, the failover requirements that many sites require.

Why? Probably because it's new and different and smells funny.

:)

New smells bring new experiences. Metadata Workbench alone is worth holding your nose.
