Dataset

Post by dodda »

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what are files created when we create a Dataset and their locations?

And i searched in this forum then i came to know descriptor file and control file will be created for each dataset.

Whichfile will be created in Resource disk path? And where will be actual data stored?

The descriptor file IS the control file. There's one of that.

As well you get one or more "segment files" per processing node.
When you use the Data Set Management tool, and select one of the nodes in the top grid, then the segment file(s) on that node are displayed on the bottom grid ("Segment Files"). In that grid you can discern the pathnames of the segment files, all of which are on the resource disk defined for that particular node.

Thanks ray ....
And one more question Is it mandatory to give dataset file name with .ds?

From what I recall, you give it 'the name' and it adds the extension on automatically.

Using the ".ds" extension is not mandatory.

Crazy if you don't. But not mandatory. Sometimes warning messages will be thrown if a file with a suffix is ".ds" does not contain a Data Set descriptor.

It creates one descriptor file and datafiles depending on number of processing nodes as mentioned by Ray. where you found those other files? :?
