Set backup on different server

Post by rverharen »

Hi,

We have a unixmachine with datastage enterprise edition running on it.
We need to set up a different server with exactly the same installation en filesystem and also with the same projects.
Can this be done by copying the entire backup (filesystem (including users and groups) and data (datasets, filesets)) to the new server?

I know this might me a problem for the datasets as they also contain information on the server it is running on.
But are there other problems we can expect if we install the entire backup on the new server?

Of course it is an option to do the installation of datastage again and create all user groups and rights and so on but we want to know if it is an option to use the backup.

Unfortunately the host name is used at install time and put into several locations, so just copying the whole filesystem to another machine won't work for the engine, but it will work for the project and data files assuming that the paths on the new machine are absolutely identical.
The server install therefore needs to be redone; but if you copy the project directories over prior to install and just give the path to the project during installation you will save the import/export and file creation time you would otherwise need.
