I have thoroughly searched this forum and other internet sites such as ittoolbox but couldn't find a whole lot on the specifics. Here are a few points I found:

1)Windows OS requires far more server reboots than Unix
2)Unix allows much larger file size handling
3)If source data is in Unix, DS on Unix is obviously better
4)Windows takes more RAM to run
5)Admin commands such as ds* commands run on Unix. On Windows, they use MKS Toolkit to run.

Can anybody add more? I am looking for Datastage specific issues rather than OS specific issues.

Bring in the vendor, they can help elaborate on the pros and cons. I have worked in both OS's and the DS software works better on Unix but as far as functionality, I have seen little difference. Most of the issues are related to memory management.

I just moved a client off Windows onto Linux-based platforms. Their reasons for the move were:

1) Avoid significant downtime for Windows anti-virus scans
2) Better price / performance on larger Linux platforms
3) Easier to find DataStage consultants with UNIX experience

With that said, it wasn't a trivial conversion - but I've covered that in another post if you look for details.

How are the commands dsrecords and orchadmin run in a Windows environment? Do I log in to command prompt and run them?
