Datastage MVS version to IIS v8.x

Hi,

I'm looking options to migrate Datastage jobs developed for the Datastage MVS version to IIS v8.x.

There is any litereature that provided a road map to migrate the Datastage MVS jobs to IIS v8.x?

There is any toolthat would help to do the migration?

The fact that you have mainframe jobs is purely a licensing issue. Use the standard documentation for upgrading. IBM will provide an XML licensing file that indicates that you have MVS edition; the installer will read this and enable the relevant components.

As Ray notes.....staying with MVS Edition and moving to v8 is a fully supported activity......

...on the other hand, moving from MVS edition to an alternate platform version (such as moving MVS to Linux IIS v8) is another story --- though still conceptually do-able from a learning curve and graphical metaphor perspective.

....are you looking to do the former or the latter...?

DataStage MVS is fully supported on version 8 and you could keep all your existing architecture. Your dev environment is currently on Windows or Linux/Unix with jobs being transferred to MVS to run - that's where your biggest upgrade will come. You will need to upgrade that environment to version 8 with all the extra software (WebSphere Application Server plus software and a repository database).

You also have a chance to look at a configuration with a cheaper running cost such as zLinux. You can partition part of your MVS onto the Linux operating system and run IBM software such as DataStage and Cognos on that partition. You get the performance of MVS without the MVS MIPS pricing. You should be able to transfer your licenses from MVS to z Linux and you should find the annual maintenance cheaper, you might be able to get some Info Analyzer or Business Glossary licenses thrown in given the price difference between MVS and Linux license costs.
