MQ Series Compatibility with Datastage 8.1

Post by jonyfranc »

Hi,

Please help me with the following questions,

We have MQSeries 6.0.2.6 and Datstage 7.5.2. We use MQ-Plugin in our Datastage jobs to do MQ Operations from Datastage. We plan to move to Datastage 8.1.

1) Is there any known issue if we import the jobs containing MQ-Plugin stages from Datastage7.5.2 to Datastage 8.1.

2) For Datastage 8.1 do we have a different MQ Plugin stage. I mean do we refer the MQ-Plugin stages with version numbers. If so which version of the plugin need to be used with Datastage 8.1

Thanks for your replies..

Your existing Jobs will work fine.

Be mindful of the install of v8 --- there is an MQ prompt that is for Server Jobs using the MQ Plugin ...it asks if you want to install the plugin for MQ and also asks if you are using MQ Server or Client.... since you are coming from 7.x, we will assume that you are using MQ Server API. Answer in the affirmative and it will lay down what you need, as you have it today --- you will have what you need for both your Server and Parallel Jobs.....

Your entry says you are using Parallel Jobs....but you should still follow the note above so that you have everything available to you, as Server is sometimes appropriate for some testing or some types of real time Job functionality.

When you get into 8.x more deeply, review the new MQ Connector that is available for your EE Jobs. It is not as "attractive" (imho), but it has additional functionality that you may find useful. It can handle MQ Client and MQ Server "as is"...it has a browser during design to help you find queues and queue managers, and it can do things such as send "end of wave" after each message.
