I don't believe so, from what I recall you'll probably need to update to a 7.x version first and then from there go to 8.

I have imported DataStage 3.x and 5.x components into DataStage 8.1 without a problem. There may be a problem with some of the really old database connection stages. For example DataStage 7.x came with a utility for converting from old to new Oracle stages. But you never know, it just might work.

Really? That's interesting, Vincent. I could have sworn that "only from 7 to 8" upgrade advice came from IOD but could very well be wrong. :?

"They" also say that you can't install the server on Windoze XP.

You should only upgrade from verison 7 to 8 but that's an upgrade - not a clean install with an export import. As far as I can tell export import works for just about any previous DataStage version.

Thanks... missed the distinction for some reason. Agree that that makes sense as being the best approach to take in situations like this.

I concur with Vincent...I have some ancient .dsx's that imported into 8.x and worked just fine....it all depends on the stage types used, techniques and properties used inside those stages, etc. etc.
