XML Query SQL language

Has anybody try to use XML Query SQL language to access data stored in an oracle,or SQL2000, or DB2 V9 table via datastage?
...have thought about setting up a test for it but haven't ever had a reason to do so..... It was my impression that the SQL could be sent to (say) DB2 via the normal API, and then return either a SQL based answer set that can be fetched as usual, or else a single large column....not sure though.....worst case, can you embed the XML QUery in a stored procedure and then use that Stage?
