DataStage TX thrives with complex data formats such as XML and complex flat files and certain industry formats such as SWIFT. It lets you define and build complex hierarchies in the tool and map from one to the other. DataStage prefers flat data such as databases and sequential files. It will tolerate complex file sources such as XML files and complex flat files (cobol and mainframe) but will prefer to flatten that data out for delivery and prefers if you have a definition file rather than trying to build a complex metadata definition by hand. DataStage TX has a plugin for DataStage so the two tools can share data instream.
