choose compare/difference/change data capture

Post by michael_west »

How do I choose between the compare, difference, and change data capture stages. It appears to me that the change data capture stage does everything that compare and difference do so I have always used change data capture. Am I missing something? I hate it when I am missing something...

Yes Change Capture does all the trick that Compare/Diff does. But if your need is just to do a 'DIFF' or a 'COMPARE' you may want to go with those specifics, just to make the job design more understable :) Otherwise Change Capture does it all

Compare compares the entire record and can report direction of difference (> or <) rather than just "different". Difference and Change Capture perform the same comparison, but present their output in different format; Change Capture uses subrecords.

Each stage as unique functionality of its own, with respect to the links, input / output dataset. Which could be found in the documentation.
Minor difference can be found at obtaining before / after dataset as output.
Impossible doesn't mean 'it is not possible' actually means... 'NOBODY HAS DONE IT SO FAR'
