Running parallel jobs on XP PROF OS

Post by Agnes »

Does anyone know how to run a datastage parallel job on XP PROF? I was able to compile the job, but it failed to run, the error msg was "the platform was not compatable"? I thought datastage can run on a ONE CPU machine, is that so? Can anyone help? thx.

Welcome! :D

Only one 7.x version of DataStage can actually run PX jobs on Windows and that's the 7.5.x2 version. Note, not 7.5.2 but literally 7.5.x2 only. Well, that and of course the new 8.x release.

Second issue is XP is not a supported server platform. You may be able to get it to work but you won't be able to get any kind of official support when you have problems.

If you want to make the Parallel jobs run on your single CPU system. You can have the datastage server component installed on a Virtual computer which runs the Unix operating system. And the access it from Windows XP which has the Datastage client components installed.

Hope that helps.

You can install 7.5x2 on Win XP-Pro (I mean Server too).

1. Microsoft .Net 2003 installed configured properly before DS installation.
2. 1GB RAM physically.
3. Set Virtual memory Intial Size Min 1024 and Maximum Size 2048 MB
Max.

Enjoy

I forgot to tell one more important thing, install XP-Pro sp2 before installing Microsoft .Net 2003.

Didn't say it wouldn't work. Only that it is not a supported server platform. You need to understand that going into this.

And you must have the 7.5.x2 version.

Hi Chulett,
I think that Agnes does not have a 7.5x2 version.
Since she got the message -->

"the platform was not compatable"?

So No way he/she can run it on Windows.
But to install it on a VM and then access it from the same machine

DataStage version 7.5x2 can be installed on Windows XP professional, but you would receive the "not supported platform" if you tried to install it on Windows XP home. I suspect this is the case here.

You do NOT need to "install on a Virtual computer which runs the UNIX operating system". MKS Toolkit installs with DataStage version 7.5x2 and many of the functions from that are invoked from DataStage, but DataStage is installed on Windows, not on any UNIX emulation.
