Administrative tasks in DS v8.0.1

Hi big guys,

I have seen some screen shots showing some Administrative tasks options in DS v8.0.1 like creating Groups and Users.

Does DS v8.x allows us to create Groups and Users ?, apart from these options, any other Administrative features are available?.

I'm still trying to get my evaluation Info Server running - problems with the license file. The manual shows creating users and groups via the new browser based tool and giving them access to roles such as DS User, DS Admin, Bus Gloss Admin, Bus Gloss author, Bus Gloss User. There are also Suite Admin and Suite User roles. The other big improvement is managing sessions, viewing sessions, session timeouts, disconnecting users, electrocuting users and ejecting users (these last two options require additional custom components).

Hi Vincent,

I got my copy of DS v8.0.1 and able to Install Win2003 and too many components ...I am lost

, I don't know from where to start .

All that I could do is creating profile, that too half completed.

Please share on how to proceed after installation.

Hi Vincent,

DS 8 Installation document says DB2 is an optional installation but while istalling I didn't any such option or choice to skip DB2 databse installation.

Please advise me if I am missing anything or is there any other work-around technique.

DB2 is the default DB which comes out of the box with Information Server 8.0 But you can configure it to a different DB(Do you have a reason to do that?). You can even configure Webshpere Application Server if you have one in place already.

But If I were you I would just go with the default settings. I think you can find much information as to how to go around installing Information Server by looking at the PDF shipped with it.

And one more thing. DB2 is not an optional installation! you can configure your repository to be on a different Database, say Oracle. But it's not optional, you need some Database for the repository. So, don't get confused there.

And one more thing you need to take care about is, that you need to have a user ID and password for the WAS and then you need to map it to a UserID on Datastage.

I don't know how you do an Oracle or SQL Server repository install - the installation guide doesn't mention it. The install wizard searches for existing DB2 or prompts for a new DB2. I don't see any Oracle or SQL Server options. Best speak to IBM support and post the answer back here.

Take a look at the IBM Information Server Planning, Installation and Configuration Guide.

The SQL Server 2005 database creation details are on page 24.
It assumes you have SQL Server 2005 installed somewhere, then all you need do is review and run a script that creates the database.

In the page where the install prompts to select "IBM Information Server Layers", do not check Metadata Repository. When you move forward with the installation, you get the option of speicfying metadata repository other than DB2.
Before this, make sure metadata repository is created as the install program tests the connection.
The metadata creation scripts come with the install software.

If you are tyring to configure a SQL Server 2005 database as metadata repository, there is one thing to remember. IIS does not work with Named instances. So create your xmeta database on the default instance

There are very few administrative tasks to perform in the console. The first is to make sure the DataStage credentials are set, the second is to make sure you have user logins with the rights to the DataStage applications. All other admin tasks can then be performed in the normal DataStage Administrator.
