Purging logs

Hi

i was wondering if there is any way to configure datastage to purge logs when the history of logs exceeds say the last 3 runs for a job. i know that there is a auto purge,but this only has the latest run in the log. i would like to know if we can configure the number of runs to keep the log info.

Or

can we automate the purging of jobs instead of manually selecting each and every log and clearing it?

yes you can configure. Go to Director.
Job--> ClearLog
Select Auto Purge in the Clear log window. It gives two options.
1)UpTo Previous (Job Runs)
2)Older Than (Days).

Select Option 1 then enter the number of runs you want to keep.

sorry. i was supposed to be more explicit. can we configure this at project level rather than setting it for each job?

Yes provided you have Admin rights. You should be able to do it by logging to DS Administrator. I guess you will net be having Admin rights so talk to your DSAdmin.

Yes. You can. Go to DS Administrator, select your project and click on the "Properties" button. In first tab "General", you can specify the purge settings you want.

Whale.

Both of you making this suggestion fail to note that it is only applied to new jobs created after the 'global' change. It doesn't automagically change it for any of the existing jobs.

For that you'd need the utilities that Ken Bland and Troup have already written or roll your own.

pavankvk, I hope you read this post again in case you are thinking about auto-purge settings of old/existing jobs.

Many thanks Craig!!!
