Designer is slow for creating parallel jobs (7.5.2)

Post by Ultramundane »

Have upgraded to version 7.5.2 of datastage server and client. Now when creating jobs on the parallel canvas it is very slow. It takes at least 3 seconds for mouse clicks to get recognized. The server canvas does not have this issue. Just the parallel canvas. Hoping for some suggestions to remedy the problem.

I created a new project and the designer is still very slow if not impossible to use. During the pauses it is chewing up 100% of the cpu on my pc.

That sounds very strange. However, I am assuming that you already checked some of the common things on your PC. Like monitoring other applications that could use up resources or rebooting and then checking for the amount of memory being used. You might want to go to the command prompt and use the MKS tool kit to see if procoess are getting hung up when your system starts. You can issue commands like ps -ef, netstat -a, df and du. If your system is running out of disk space, this could also cause this slowness. If you have stopped and restarted the services and this is still happening, you might just need to upgrade Datastage again.

Is it dsdesign.exe that is eating the CPU on your PC? Use the Processes tab in Task Manager; click on the CPU column heading to sort by CPU.

ultramundane,

Yeah. It is dsdesign.exe eating up the CPU.

Yep it sounds like the exact same problem. However, I tried a different user "run as" and it still hangs on me.

Have you tried the same job from another PC, I seem to remember I couldn't reproduce the issue on another system and thought some of the cause might lie in the libraries I had on that particular system.

Before updating client had done.
1. Add or Remove programs (removed datastage 7.5.1)
2. rebooted.
3. installed 7.5.2
4. rebooted
Had problem

After tried same steps with 7.5.2
1. Add or Remove programs (removed datastage 7.5.2)
2. rebooted
3. installed 7.5.2
4. rebooted
Still had problem

Did this
1. Add or remove programs (removed datastage 7.5.2)
2. removed directories left behind, 7.5.1 & 7.5.2
3. rebooted
4. installed 7.5.2
5. rebooted
Still had problem

Did this
1. Add or remove programs (removed datastage 7.5.2)
2. Add or remove programs (removed metastage, not using it anyways)
3. removed directories left behind
4. rebooted
5. installed 7.5.2
6. rebooted
Is working now.
