Hi all,

I was using the DataStage Designer for the whole day and all of a sudden, my system froze whenever I opened the any Stage Properties. I have tried uninstall and re-install for 2 times but still nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what is the problem? I suspect some file is corrupted in the system but I am not sure which one.

Please help!! I can't do anything without the stage properties!!

Sometimes an uninstall doesn't uninstall enough. As long as your machine does not host the Server install as well, try:

1) Uninstall the DataStage client
2) Remove any leftover Ascential directories
3) Remove any Ascential Registry entries using RegEdit
4) Reboot
5) Reinstall the client

Seem like #3 is the key step when people are having a problem like this.

Are you using Windows XP Pro on your client machine? If so, do you have service pack 2 installed? If so, do you have the required Ascential patch for DataStage Designer?

chulett, i have followed yr steps but still the stage properties can't open. i have discovered that the server jobs are all ok but the parallel jobs are the one that i can't open especially the stage properties for file sets, data sets, sequential files. :(

ray, everytime i re-install, i also install the patch before testing whether the jobs can be open.

i am sooo stuck now! sigh..... :?

Is "dsclient_xpsp2" the path you are mentioning about?

Thanks for all yr help, Chulett!! Actually your instructions worked, just that I missed out removing some of the Ascential registry stuffs. I finally did a find of the word 'Ascential' and deleted all of it's records, restarted and reinstall again. Now it works!! :D

Really appreciate all your help!!
