Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 migration

Post by Chuah »

I am planning to migrate from a server with Solaris 8 and DS 7.5.1. The DS 7.5.1 is currently installed in a server with Solaris 8 and we need to port it to another server with Solaris 10 and decommission the existing server.
Question : Can we just copy the entire DS installation and all its files into the new server or do we have to reinstall etc.

My main gripe is the configuration of DS to connect to DB2 which is quite time consuming and would prefer to be able to copy config files across..
So even if we have to reinstall can we just copy relevant config files across ?

You need to re-install the DataStage engine on the new machine; a UNIX level copy is not sufficient and will not result in a running DS installation. The DataStage projects might be copied (create the project normally on the new machine and then overwrite the contents from the original) but it makes more sense to do a clean project install using the Manager export & import functions.

The configuration files can be copied from old to new as well with even less problems.
