SAP ABAP Stage Can See Environment Variables

We can't seem to make the Envirnoment Variables work within a Parallel Job using the SAP ABAP Extract Stage. For example, if you have USERNAME set to #$R3ID#, this Env Variable doesn't work. The ABAP
Stage sees it as a Job Parameter such as #R3ID#. This is true for the PASSWORD Environment Variable as well.

Has anyone seen this? Any ideas on a work around?
