Windows 7

Post by JeroenDmt »

Can Information Server DataStage v8 be used on Windows 7 (server + client)?

The only thing that I can find on the IBM website is that the minimum requirement for IS Server on Windows is Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2. But that doesn't specify anything about Windows 7.

From which omission you can determine that Windows 7 is not (yet) a supported operating system for DataStage.

Rumour has it that Windows 7 will be supported, at least for clients, in the next version.

Does that mean that Windows Server 2003 is the only windows version that is supported for a Information Server server?

January 2008: Windows 7 Milestone 1 build 6519 released to Microsoft partners
October 2008: Windows 7 build 6801 given to developers at the PDC conference
January 2009: Windows 7 Beta build 7000 released to the public beta testers (2.5 million users)
May 2009: Windows 7 Release Candidate build 7100 released to the general public
August 2009: Windows 7 RTM released to MSDN and Technet subscribers
October 2009: Windows 7 RTM available in retail stores

Q: How long does it take IBM to support the latest operating system?
A: Over two freaking years!

Keep paying those support and maintenance fees... IBM is laughing all the way to the bank. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

IBM could not begin testing until August 2009, based on that timetable.

There is support for Windows 7 in Foundation Tools 8.1.2 (recently released) - doubtless for other products in the suite in the next-released version (first half of this year).

Stay tuned.
