Can a configuration file have odd number of nodes ? Why even is very common ?

Sure, however people just naturally tend to prefer even numbers in my experience.

IT people tend to think in multiples of 2, 8, 16, 512 or 1024.

For all N<9 an element of the natural numbers, there exists a configuration file which is named ds_N_node.apt.
