I am surprised an IBM rep is saying that because it's a black mark against the product if it does not run as well against Oracle and SQL Server repositories. They will lose business to Informatica if they start spreading stories like that. You shouldn't have to train up in DB2 just to support one product repository - you should be able to go with Oracle.

We run against an Oracle 10i repository. We have one verified Oracle specific problem where we get a repository access error if we try to access a level four repository folder but they have sent us a patch for that (haven't tried it yet). I also have performance issues with navigating around Information Analyzer metadata import but that could be due to network or configuration issues. Apart from that the Oracle repository seems to run well.

Thanks vmcburney,

Do you have oracle based repository installed on the same server with Engine or separate...

Thanks Sanjay,

Shall appreciate if you can share more info on your bad experience.

How are you administering your DB2 with perspective of Backup/recovery etc,is it easy to learn?

thanks

Some default installation and configuration scripts are based on DB2 environment. You can modify them to suit other databases.

Apart from that, it must not matter which database you run.

I would recommend using the repository for which you have a DBA.

We have been running on an Oracle metadata repository ever since v8 was in beta. There have been no issues as far as corruption goes.

Thought to put back our experience

We went ahead with Oracle 10g R2 database as xmeta & its working fine.

Taking most relevant suggestions to our circumstances...
