8.1 IBM InformationServer first time login error

Post by octogun »

Hi -
We have 2 boxes RHEL 4.
One box is running Service tier other box is running Engine tier, metadata repository is in separate box oracle 10g.

I installed WAS 6.0.2.27 on box 1, installed Service tier DS, QS, FT etc.
Created 2 ids on OS wadmin and iadmin
all ports are open.
Started WAS with wadmin
directory for WAS owned by wadmin and dir for Information server owned by iadmin

Installed engine tier on box 2 , registered it with box 1,
created 2 ids on OS wadmin and iadmin
started engine with iadmin run script ds.rc, dir owner changed from root to iadmin
created project test

currently able to login to WAS console and Information server web console using wadmin and iadmin ids.
Not able to login to Admin client - it recognizes Domain , it also recognizes datastage server but throws 80011 error trying to connect to project uv.

In the WAS console> global security currently using custom internal registry,
Since its internal registry it cannot be shared between engine and WAS.
Tried to add wadmin and iadmin users and also map credentials to iadmin, I still get 80011 error.

Do I need root > why has IBM designed app which needs root password. Nowdays nobody knows root password for security. All get sudo access to root.
I am stuck and not able to proceed further please help. let me know if you need any clarification.

thanks for patiently reading my post > I just wanted to put out the install process I followed.

have a nice day and weekend.

cheers

Did you do Administration -> Domain Management -> DataStage Credentials, select and open that up and enter the default DataStage and Qualitystage credentials?

I am in DataStage Credentials > I select server Box2, user registry - Not Shared.
There are 3 options :
Open configuration
Open My Credentials
Open User Credentials

In Open Configuration :
Option for Share registry is left unchecked.
Option for Default DS QS credentials :
I just entered iadmin and password and confirm password.
clicked Save.

In open my credentials :
i have iadmin password confirm password

In Open User Credentials:
I have 2 ids iadmin(suite user) -> iadmin (DS and QS OS users)
wadmin(suite user) -> wadmin (DS and QS OS users)

Do I need to restart WAS? Cause it still throws error when i use iadmin and password.
DataStage Repository Interface
Failed to connect to DataStage Server:
Box2:31538, project uv
username and/or password incorrect 80011

thanks

I was just told that LDAP is available.
Will using LDAP fix this login error?

Are there any pitffalls to avoid when using LDAP?
Can I still login to WAS console and Information server console after LDAP is configured using wadmin and iadmin?
Specially since wadmin and iadmin id's don't exist in LDAP.

Please advice.

I've not used LDAP so cannot help you there. If you don't click on the "share User registry" and enter the UNIX userid and password (correctly), then add a user and also assign the roles to that user then you should be able to login (if other things are wrong the error message will reflect that). Did you assign roles to the users?

for the iadmin the role it has assigned is suite admin and suite user.
for suite component it has :
Business glossaary admin
DS QS admin
DS QS user
Fasttrack project Admin
info analyzer
metadata workbench
For Project
its blank( i was hoping there is something there)

Any other roles I am missing?
Is there a log available for viewing? Not installation log but application log?
thanks

I just saw this - I think you should be entering your "Box2:9080" instead of "Box2:31538"!

Premium membership dues keep the site alive; whether or not you sign up depends upon the value you place on the forum for your use.
But in this case I've marked my previous post to be visible, since the quoted text used up all the "free" words.

Strange that the posts are being "cropped". Basically, I think you need to use Box2:9080 instead of Box2:31538

Hi -
I tried 9080 but i got a different error.
The connection was refused or the RPC daemon is not running 81016

I thought 9080 only was on the service tier not Engine Tier. We have engine tier on box 2 and service tier on box1.

thanks
