Slowly Changing Dimension stage : Quick explaination

Post by algfr »

Hi people,

I read all the documentation about SCD stage but I can't get to understand it.

It seems I have to use it while loading the fact table. To me it should be done like this :

1) My product dim is SCD 2 so I'm using a job to compare new data to old data. if required i will generate extra rows

2) When loading the fact table i filter the dim using dates to get the correct surrogate key in there

Does this make sense

Also what happens if I want to design a SCD type one dim using a standard surrogate key and migrate it later to a type 2 ?

Thanks people

Sufficient questions are present on this topic in search database

First do a search and then post.

Did you have the DataStage IBM Red book? If not do a search, is free, and will answer most of your questions
