Oracle query hangs

Oracle query hangs

Can anybody tell how to overcome this issue. I think there is nothing wrong from the database side. So doesn't make any sense to keep on bugging the DBA

I have oracle 9i client on my PC and on Datastage server and connected to oracle 11g database. When i try to execute the same query from both systems, there is no problem on my PC but the query hangs on the datastage server. these are simple queries. As a result when oracle enterprise stage tries to connect DB from Designer , the datastage also getting hanged and there is no response. I have to kill the designer.

My datastage server is at datacenter in indiana and the oracle database server is in south carolina. will there be any network issues and one more thing there are no ORA errors. Just it hangs.
