What are the datastore options in Datastage?

Post by namitrs »

Hello All

I am really new in DataStage, learning by myself and with help from you guys, so please pardon my novice questions.

I have been playing with DS, but could not really find a way to have connection to SQL Server Database, in any of the jobs.

Is it something not available, or I could not find it?

Thanks
Namit

Namit,
You can connect to SQL server by ODBC Stage or DRS Stage.
Make sure you have configured your ODBC connection on ETL server.

Datastore and kind of Job?

Post by namitrs »

Do you mind telling me what is DRS Stage

Also, I have the server installed on my XP Prof where I have the client as well. I was successully been able to create and run a Server Job on it.

But I saw the Mainframe jobs have lots of options and Stages. Can I run that kinda job on my environemnt?

Thanks
Namit

Mainframe jobs generate COBOL and JCL that you must then move to a zSeries machine, compile and run there.

DRS = the Dynamic Relational Stage, one which alleges to support access to multiple databases with the flip of a switch.

So does that mean, I cant run a Mainframe job on my server. But, the normal server job has pretty less options and stages, in comparison? Am i missing something?

Also, Craig thanks for your response.

Mainframe jobs actually have fewer options than server jobs. If I were you I'd track down one of the DataStage experts in IBM Australia for a chat.
