If I remembered correctly, Metadata Server is installed (greyed out) automatically.

There is loose coupling between the Information Server and Federation - you could for example install Federation onto DB2 as a standalone install and install the Federation plugin on your DataStage Server to access it. You could also connect to the Federated views using a DB2 connector.

Business Glossary is optional - it's useful but you need a commitment to appoint data stewards and populate and maintain the metadata definitions. The latest additions to the Information Server are Business Glossary Anywhere, FastTrack - the source to target mapping tool that generates DataStage jobs, Data Mirror Change Data Capture components for replicating database changes - not sure if it works on IMS. There is also Data Architect that also does source to target mapping and can generate Federated queries though you can get by with the standard Federation Server tools.

The tool missing from your list is Metadata Workbench that provides the data lineage and impact analysis of metadata. Like the Business Glossary it's an optional extra but quite useful after your implementation for maintenance and support.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Its indeed very helpful.
I still am not clear whether MetaData Server is optional or mandatory for any DS project ?

Mandatory, but globally rather than for each project.

The Metadata Delivery service is how metadata are moved to and fro between consumers (such as DataStage Server) and the XMETA database.
