Installation of Information Server on a same PC

Post by shrek7577 »

Hi,

Previously, I've successfully installed et run DS 7.5 Server + client on a my laptop (Windows XP SP1, 1Gb ram). I needed a specific RJ45 to make a local network.

For Information Server v8, I have read in the installation guide that it need 2 computers to run. But, I need to have the DS Engine + Client on my laptop (Windows XP SP2, 2Gb ram)

Is it possible to install all Information Server (DB2, WAS, Datastage and Qualitystage) on the same machine ?

I try to install it but after installation, the Information Server Web Console doesn't connect the server with this URL : http://localhost:9080/index.jsp
9080 : the default port

And no connection with the specific RJ45 to create a local network which run previously with DS 7.5

Someone can help me ?

Thanks.

Yes

2. Let us know what configuration was done after installation.

Thanks

The installation was done successfully for :
- Business Glossary
- Datastage and Quality Stage
- Documentation
- Information Analyzer
- Information services director

After reboot, no connection (with the default DS users) for
- WAS
- DB2
- IS

I have read the QuickStart guide but nothing about the connection.

You need 2GB just for the Client. You need to check the Server requirements.

I know that the PC must have need 2 Go just for Client.
But, it look like Windows XP which need 2Go RAM but which can run with 512Mb.

I will upgrade my memory if necessary but I think the pb is not the memory. When my PC start with the DB2 and DS services, only 712Mb were used.

Installing the Information Server on the Windwos XP machine is not supported. Also, can you clarify a little bit on "I needed a specific RJ45 to make a local network"?

You're right : Win XP is not supported by the layer Engine.

But previously, DS 7.5 server didn't support WinXp but it can run on it !
And I used it on my Win XP laptop for many months so I hope that Information Server can run too on XP.

If you want to execute Client and Server on the same machine, you must connect a RJ45 wired on itself. If you don't connect it to the PC, the server can not be detected.

Oh, a 'loopback connector' or adapter.

Yeessss !!!

1. IS v8 can be installed on a same PC on Windows XP SP2 (with minimun 2Gb). You don't need to run it on Windows Server 2003. Maybe for advanced functionality.

2. Some laptop/PC does not have network even it it's wired to a hub. If you type 'ipconfig' in the Invite Command, there will no response.
So, you need to put a loopback RJ45 connector in the laptop. Wait a few minutes. Retype "ipconfig" in the Invite Command to verify that the network is OK

3. Somes DB2/Java services begin to run et to grow in memory (from 200-300Mb to 800Mb)

4. If you start the first time the Designer, the user must be
- declared in the Web Console for the credentials
- declared in the Windows in the Administrators group

5. Upgrade your RAM : at least 3Gb to run correctly IS v8 Windows

That's all folk !

I've run the Information Server on a Windows XP laptop - I recommend you create all your admin users first with passwords set to not expire. If the initial install does not work uninstall everything and start in bands - repository and domain first followed by server software. The WebSphere Application Server is a critical part of the install and, in my experience, the part that fails the most. Try using internal security instead of operating system security for a greater chance of success.

I ran the software on 2G of RAM and my laptop struggled. Definitely recommend 3G.

Make sure that when you are not using the software all the services such as DataStage, WAS and DB2 are turned off to free up RAM.

Thanks wmcburney.
I disable the Java/DB2 services to free the ram of my laptop et restart them to use Datastage.
