Difference between ODBC and Plug-In

Post by Raamc »

Hi,

Can any one tell me what is the difference between importing meta data through ODBC table definitions and Plug-In meta data definitions options in IMPORT.

Thanks

At a high level - nothing. All 'import metadata'. The difference is whether you use a generic or native stage to do the dirty work. Allegedly, you'll get 'better' or more accurate metadata if you use a native plug-in.

Either way will get you the basics, column names and data types. And you can always correct any 'mistakes' it makes by hand.

By far the most accurate metadata import is through the Orchestrate orchdbutil facility.
