Classic Federation setup

Post by seanc217 »

Hi there I will be traveling to a vendor site in August for a POC on the classic federation server product.

Has anyone in the forum used this stage before?

Are there any requirements (libraries etc that need to be added to the dsenv file) to use this stage?

Thanks.

Hi,
Classic Federation ( Assuming it is Information Integration Classic Federation ) drivers needs to be added to the LIBPATH in dsenv file.
branded odbc libraries should be defined after the classic federation libraries in dsenv file.

Otherwise it will not work.

Thanks

These drivers are installed by default correct?

So I would just need to put the path in the dsenv file.

Thanks for the help.

Branded Odbc drivers gets installed by default at the time of DataStage installation.

Once you install the classic federation, you have to edit the dsenv file to include the lib directory location of the classic federation in the dsenv file.

This has to be before the branded odbc drivers.

Thanks

Hi Thanks for the info, just so I get this straight. There's a client to connect to the classic fed product, like you install an Oracle client to connect to Oracle?

Yes ,
There is a client available from IBM.
But for what purpose are you using the Classic federations.

We tried to use it to extract data from VSAM / Datacom files/tables from mainframes. Performance wise it is very slow .

Thanks,

OK thanks for the info.

We are doing a POC with IBM on this. We have data sources in a mainframe we need to access.

I appreciate the info.
