Error vmdsobj.dll while opening DataStage Designer
Hi,
We have just installed Datastage 8.0 client version.
Opening the program "Director" does not give any Errors
Opening the program "Designer" gives the following Error:
(61485)***Internal error***
Failed to discover supported platform information from vmdsobj.dll.
Ensure this DLL is installed and registered.
We tried to install and register it with the command regsvr32.
Greetings.

Perhaps some prerequisite has not been met, like the latest version of .NET or something else of that ilk? Does the readme give you any information along those lines? Worst case, contact your official Support provider and then let us know what comes of it.

I have the same issue- probably not a Windows or Multi-Client Manager issue. We've been using all the 8.0 clients against our test server for 1.5 months. I can still access that server without issue. We setup our new prod server today and I can access it with Administrator and Director, but I get the same error with Designer. I uploaded the test server license file just in case it was a licensing problem and got the same result.
I'm going to follow-up with support as well.
We're also XP SP2, UNIX and Oracle.

This worked for me as well. The Oracle DBA's pulled the old bait and switch- they gave me a 10.2 instance for my dev metadata repository database, then forwarded the prod login info neglecting to tell me it was a 9.2 instance. Problem resolved with a re-install pointing to a 10.2 instance.
But I'm curious; this should probably be a new thread, but how would one update the username/ password in DataStage if it had to change on the Oracle side? One can't always just re-install...
