DataStage License

Post by y2ariyas »

Hi DataStage gurus,

I understand IBM license for DataStage is based on number of CPU,
but if we decide to use dual-core cpu, would that be considered as 1 license(1cpu) or 2 license?

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

Thanks for the quick reply DSguru2B,

Is it a good idea to go to dual-core processors or two separate cpu's?

Thats like a more general processing question. Search for it on google. Let us know what you found

I guess so. Four times the power and efficiency would cost four licenses.

I know you've got the smiley there, Whale, but it's not about processing power. Oracle used to play that game, called them 'Power Units', different CPUs or Server classes were assigned different amounts of Power Units and thus different amounts of money. Didn't go over well and didn't last all that long, from what I recall.

It's strictly about the number of CPUs. 'Quad Core' is exactly what it sounds like - 4 CPUs on a single 'core' or chip. To an application it doesn't look or smell any different than 4 separate CPUs. So to me, it's not a open question at all... one would require 4 CPU licences. No doubt in my mind.

Thats interesting, so the Dual core or Quad core or not charge as 2 or 4 liciense as it is by IBM.

Great... power units. Perhaps they'll roll that into DataStage with the 8.0 release.
