Two versions, one client machine

Is it possible for versions 8.5 and 11.5.0.1 to co-exist on the one client machine?

When trying to install 11.5, we are getting errors relating to the existing MKS Toolkit. We will, of course, involve support, but were just wondering whether anyone has this combination working.

Thank you for your time.

Yes you can install two versions on the Unix side and two versions on the Windows client side.

The documentation should let you know how to do that. The install path should be different of course.

The Unix side will be tricky as you have to mess with different default port settings and the /.dshome will be something you now need to figure out how to overcome.

The client side has the Multi Client Manager that you need to run to switch back and forth between client versions.

MCM - because only one client can be active at any given time.

I gave up on the Multi Client Manager long ago. I always found it way too unreliable if client patches were ever needed.

I prefer different client versions to be in separate VMs.

Ditto Mike.

I do not install multiple DataStage versions (on a host) on the Unix side, or the Client side. Not worth the headaches.

We are running 8.7, 11.3, and 11.5 clients on the same client machines with no problems. The thing you have to remember before patching a given client is to use the multi-client manager to switch to that version to make it active before patching it.

If I read your post correctly, you cannot install 11.5 client because it finds that MKS Toolkit is already present.

Have you had any feedback from support yet?

I'm wondering if their install paths were, in fact, different.

I have installed 11.3 & 11.5 on same PC/VM without any issue :)
