Backup Full Datastage Project

Hi all,
I write for asking what is the best way to make backup of Datastage Project, without do it manually or doing export Job, project by project.

We thought to do a full backup via third-party tool of two file systems:
  • one where there is all project, namely /../DS_Projects,
and other where there is repository oracle, namely /u01/.../repoXmeta/
Do you think this method is correct?
Do you think, using this method, we can easily restore all without problems?

If this approch seems to be correct, what else do we have to do (e.g. stopping service)?

Is there another methodology to accomplish the requiremnt?

Thanks in advance
Sandro

No, it would be a pain to restore.

Use scripting around istool utility, using dsjob commands to generate lists of projects and of artefacts within projects.

Not really all that helpful of an answer unless you also explain what that means and how to actually do it.

We stopped taking backups of project directories.

you can use isalite tool and recover the project from repository

Make sure you are backing up repository properly.

As Ray suggested you can write script to take backups by using istools command in isx format.

Thanks

Thank you for your replay.

I don't know ISALite tool. What about?

We have a lot of project, every one with different ownership.
Do I need to use istool for every project or Can I "export/backup" every think in one time?
What is our impact in case of recovery?

Can ISAlite accomplish my requirements?
Is it necessary to install or configure ISALite?
We never use this tool.

So, directory backup is not a good street!?

Thanks a lot

Other helpful hints to truly recover from a disaster:

Back up your message handlers as well.
Back up your project DSParms file.

Thank you for your time.

All of your suggestions are application side....some to implement...
Is there nothing-sys-admin-side, that ensure correct restore in case of fault!?

Our sys men use TSM, and this is why I asked in first post if Back Up of File System is safe for Datastage.

Thanks

It's safe most of the time, but TSM can only restore the entire system, not parts of it. For example you would not be able to restore a single job design.

There is also a very small chance that TSM will be backing up a structure (such as a hashed file in the internal DataStage repository) while it is being written to, which would lead to a corrupted backup if, say, the hashed file underwent a split or merge operation.

Thank you for your replay.
I am not able to see all of your post because I haven't a premium account...
How can I obtain it?

So, using TSM, if I schedule a point in time back up of all file system inherited with Datastage and Information Server(DS Project, Repo, IS), can I safely make a whole restore ? What constraints?

By contrast, if I want to implement single asset restore procedure (restore of single DS project or single job), do I need to use ISTOOL or ISALite?

Is it right?

Thank you for your patience.
