Upgrading from 8.1 to 11.3

Hi guys

We are currently running Datastage 8.1 on AIX.

Next year we are planning to upgrade to 11.3 on Linux.

The plan is to export the jobs from 8.1, import into 11.3, recompile and do regression as well as parallel testing.

I know we are covering a lot of years and it potentially could be quite painful. So that is why i thought i would ask if any of you can offer any advice, insight, or word of caution.

I also need some advice on the following two topics -

1. Failover/load balancing cluster - Is this available with the basic license or does one need to pay extra for it ? How much ?

Does it provide in-flight failover ?

2. Is version control still a part of DS 11.3 ? How well does it work ? Has anyone been using it ?

If you can point me in the right direction.

Thank you.

The product supports High Availability in that you can use a WebSphere cluster for the front-end (Services Tier). It also supports using a virtual hostname for the engine to support Active / Passive failover after an engine failure. However, if you want automated failover you will need to purchase HA software from Veritas, IBM, etc to provide "heart-beat" checking and failover.

2. No Version Control is no longer supported.

While Version Control no longer exists, Information Server Manager allows one to interact with source code control systems. You might like to investigate that mechanism. (An Eclipse plug-in is required for non-IBM source code control systems.)
