Basic access: a silly question

Post by sopsiac »

This is a very basic question..., but I can't get the solution!

I can't do that some users access the platform.

We have:
DataStage 7.5.2
Windows 2003 Server (SP2) called DS_machine
LDAP users

Using Computer Management I created a local group (LCST) and I put the LDAP users in.

After that, using DataStage Administrator > Projects (called BASIC_ETL) > Properties > Permissions I put this group into the User Role "DataStage Operator"

I expect doing that, the users could access the project, but I obtain this message

Failed to connect to host: DS_machine, project: Basic_ETL
(User name and/or password incorrect (80011))

I'm reading the forum and the product guides, but I can't find my error.

I check the Ascential folder security (Full control for LCST group) and the Ascential_Data\Basic_ETL folder (Full control too).

I suppose it will be something very stupid or very basic but I can't find it.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

Can you confirm the user name and password which you have given has Administrator privilege.

Thanks,
Ram

Have you set up Engine credentials using web console for Information Server? DataStage requires that each user have Engine credentials mapping to an operating system user (unless the operating system also uses LDAP in which case you can select "shared" credentials).

This is the 7.x release we're discussing here, so there's no IS component. Does it even support LDAP? :?

Good catch. Version 7.x supports whatever the operating system is using. So, if the operating system security is implemented via LDAP, then so is DataStage's.

Thanks for the info.
I made another test:

I have tried to create a local user, a non-LDAP user and if I try to access I obatain these errors:

Trying to acccess from the server
Failed to connect to host: DS_machine, project: BASIC_ETL
(Internal Error (39202))

Trying to access remotely
Failed to connect to host: DS_machine, project: BASIC_ETL
(The connection is broken (81002))

I restarted the DS service, but the error persist.

Right now I can only access (either locally or remotely) to DataStage (Director, Administrator...) using the local user that the application is installed

The problem may or may not be in the datastage. On server side the file/folder permission may also create this problem. Are you able to access (read/write/execute) the files and folders in <Installation Dir>/Projects/BASIC_ETL.

The local user is in the local group (LCST). This group has Full control over the <Installation Dir>/Projects/BASIC_ETL folder

Hi everybody,

Finally, I found the error. I needed to give permissions to the folder E: \ Ascential \ DataStage \ Engine

Now, it's works well.

Thanks a lot
