Hi Guys,

We are into DataStage 8.1, we need to migrate to DataStage 8.5.

Can you please let me know the steps to migrate to DataStage 8.5.

It would be of great help, any do or don'ts.

Thanks,

I think it will be same as migrating from 7.x to 8.X.

Please follow the below link.

It is definitely NOT the same as migrating from version 7 to version 8. It is far simpler for a start. Are you intending to upgrade on the same machine, or install cleanly on a new server then migrate? The latter is recommended practice if you can manage it.

Because they are interested in upgrading to Information Server 8.5, the correct link would've pointed them to the 8.5 Information Center, not the 8.1 Information Center.

I would recommend against in in-place upgrade.

Can it be done? yes.

Do you want to put your PROD environment at risk while you co-locate another release on it? .... your call.

Servers are cheap, I would not get rid of my DEV 8.1 environment while I still have life in my 8.1 PROD environment. There will ALWAYS be a chance that you need an emergency change right up until the last minute of switching over to 8.5.

Since you are upgrading release levels, you might also want to upgrade OS levels. Thinking of upgrading to that 10GB network card? Perhaps you want to update your storage tech to take advantage of speedier HW.

You're in a sweet spot to migrate to better hardware that could spell faster execution time. Not sure how marginal your SLA time frames are at the moment, but in our shop every ounce of speed counts.

Upgrading in place is very possible. But it will limit you if you wish to upgrade other aspects of your environment.
