Where is the METADATA file

Is there a file or location where the metadata gets stored ?

Like a job log file ?

Eg- config file gets stored at a particular location, just like that where does metadata file gets stored ?

Are you talking about DataStage or a DataStage job? The metadata gets stored in a database repository usually called XMETA and you can browse or query it through the Metadata Workbench application.

Job design information is also stored in the project's local repository database, which some mistakenly call "UniVerse".
