Just wondering as DB2 will be a new source for everyone here and getting software approved is a long and arduous process. So, I know most clients come with their own tools, like sqlplus for Oracle, and Toad probably has a 'for DB2' version but wondering what else might be out there that people have used and would recommend?

Toad for DB2 is VERY nice and has a lot of add-on packages that do very neat stuff. Highly recommended.

I use DB2 own tools like Command Editor most of the time but it is not longer strategic - even deprecated. IBM suggests DataStudio (eclipse) which is free (there are also OPTIM tools which are not free but based on the same plattform) and has some neat features.

A very nice non-IBM tool is AQT - not free but very flexible and powerful...

DB2 Control Center (which installs from the DB2 client software media) or DB2 Data Studio - the newer tool. Both support through to DB2 v9.7, which is the version of InfoSphere Warehouse.

Aqua data studio is used by a number of people here.

It has all the basic features and works with lots of rdbms's. Looking at the site there are newer versions available than the one we have so i guess more features too.

Not sure about the cost for licenses but they are all available for free evaluation.

A lot of DB2 sites have Teradata. I used its client a lot of places.

We use DB Visualizer, which is available for FREE as well as for paid. It uses JDBC drivers and it is a decent tool that is available for FREE. You can also try their evaluation license which is valid for 26 days to see if you are interested in their full version.

Toad for DB2 is a decent one, although the one I used before was kind of buggy.

Thanks. Problem I'm finding is that working for the Gov't on a GI laptop means the only software that can be installed is something from their 'approved list'. And it's not a long list. And my pc is locked down so tight, not only can I not install any software on my own, I can't plug in a flashdrive nor edit any file I did not create myself. Loverly.

So now we're trying to find out what is "approved" that they'll let us have.

In the same boat, but working for some high powered (three star) officers, so slightly better chance of getting things approved. Like Information Server client, for example. (Sheesh.)

However, we DO have both Control Center and its younger cousin Data Studio installed.

Hmm...then I guess you might be stuck with using DB2 native Command line tools. Good luck with that!
