There's really no architectural differences between 8.0.1 and 8.1, what you're really asking about are the differences between the 8.x release and every release that came before it.

The 8.x documentation includes an Introduction pdf that "provides a scenario-based overview of IBM Information Server and its product modules and describes how the product modules work together as an integrated platform" and would be a good place to start. There's also information along those lines in the Migrating to IBM Information Server Version 8 pdf. Then there's always the official IBM site, I'm sure there must be something on the subject there. Somewhere.
