A role with just read-only to Designer, Director & Admin

Post by kandyshandy »

I believe that most of us knew about Operator & Super Operator roles in DataStage.

This is my 4th organization, especially a bank, where admin or infra team is reluctant to grant Operator or Super Operator role in production environment for genuine reasons. The reasons are that the production environment should be a restricted one, people including production support team should not have a way to do adhoc executions, stops, resets, purging logs, add/modify enviroment variables & values etc. Unfortunately, all of these are feasible with Operator and Super Operator roles.

Any idea why IBM did not come up with a role which JUST has read-only accesss to Director/Designer/Administrator? Is this in "near" future scope? Did anyone ask about this in IBM DataStage meetings/webinar etc?

For such a role, you should ask your IBM support. They will push you to upgrade to 8.7 + in order to take advantange of the Opperational Dashboard which would give that read only view you are talking about. If you are stuck on 8.5 or less... you should ask IBM about a ... let's call it "Lite" version of Director. They would be your best bet.

Other larger organizations have also desired that functionality.

There is a security role called "Operations Viewer" related to the Operations Console that PaulVl mentioned. It has been available since at least December 2011. The Console is web-based, so there's not even any need to install the Client!
