32-Bit to 64-Bit - Datastage Version Migration

Post by nvalia »

Hi,

We are on Windows on v7.5.3 and are planning to migrate to Information Server V9.1.2. Currently the Datastage Engine is 32-bit where as I understand in 9.1.2 it will be 64-Bit (or 32-bit?)

Are there any potential issues due to change in bitness that could impact the export/import/compile of the server jobs in the new version?

Appreciate any insight into this.

Thanks,
VN

Any issues you encounter with upgrading the jobs should be unrelated to "bitness". The only time I've encountered any "32-bit" vs. "64-bit" issues was with custom routines that required some tweaks to compile correctly with 64-bit libraries.

There are quite a few issues you will encounter during that significant of a jump between versions, but they will be related to the many new features and new restrictions / policies. You will also encounter issues if the site decides to turn on NLS support, which will cause jobs to respond differently when out-of-map characters are encountered.

In summary - don't expect the jobs to just compile and run...

Also - be sure to install the 64-bit database client / drivers to maximize performance.
