Data Stage Installation multiple versions

Post by Poovalingam »

Hi Everybody,
Can we have multiple data stage version get installed in a same server?
I'm not trying to do installation. I just thought of this point since I have come across with few data stage upgradation projects. I haven't seen anywhere using same server for 2 versions.

Regards,

Yes, this is possible. You have to make sure that two different installations do not share resources that they can't. Most of this is handled automatically during installation, but not all of it.

We installed 8.5 parallel to 8.0.1 for a migration-test once. No issues there.

This has become the preferred approach for upgrading 8.x versions as it lets you use the Migration tool from the IBM migration concierge team. The migration tool moves content from 8.0.1, 8.1 or 8.5 and move it into 8.7 running on the same server.

Thanks all. It's good to know that tools are preferred for migration. TA.

Is it possible to run two version of DS jobs simultaneously?

There is situation where half of the jobs from a project need to be migrated & running into new version of DS and half of the jobs are still running in old version in production environment, that need to be migrated into new version in the second phase.
Here is question, can two version of DS jobs be run simultaneously from the same project? If yes, what are the things need to take care?

Any documentations/link will be great?

The short answer is no. Projects are specific to the installation / version of DataStage.

Can we keep both the versions running simultaneously? Run some projects from old version and some from the new version on the same server?

Yes, that will work - the same job can run simultaneously on one machine from two different projects; assuming that they don't use some single-threaded type resource such as writing to the same sequential file.
