client version (8.7.0.0)is not compatible with the installed

Hi,
we have installed 8.5 on solaris server.
but we installed client 8.7 version as we have 8.7 client software also.
after installed client 8.7, we try to cponnect designer/director, its giving that error that
"Error message: Cannot attach to services tier at 'dmr3-app-d-vs01'. Your client version (8.7.0.0) is not compatible with the installed services tier version (8.5.0.0)".here my question is higher version client will not support its previous server version?

The client version must match the server version, as you have just discovered. You'll need to install the 8.5 client.

You can have both client versions installed (in different folders, obviously) and switch between them using Multi Client Manager. You can only have one client version active at any one time, because they use identically-named DLLs for some things.
